What is JobShop?

JobShop is a student-led service operated by the University of Manchester Students’ Union. We advertise student-friendly part-time jobs within the Students’ Union as well as with external employers in Manchester. We also offer a lot of resources and advice on our website and at our events such as the weekly JobClub drop in sessions.

I need some help find a part-time job. What support is on offer?

We run a weekly drop-in support session called JobClub. You can get in-person support from writing CVs to practising interviews. Pop in anytime from 1pm-3pm on a Wednesday (during term-time) in Essentials, Oxford Road.

Do I need to sign up?

No! You can view all of our available jobs on the ‘Job Board’ tab. You can sign up to the mailing list to receive notifications of new job opportunities, if you want to.

How do I apply for a job through JobShop?

Each advert will specific how you should apply. Sometimes you’ll send a CV to a given email address, sometimes there will be a link for you to submit an application form.

I want to work for the Students’ Union. How do I do that?

We often advertise jobs at the Students’ Union. Jobs are usually available during August, but they do recruit throughout the year. Check out the website for more info

Do you advertise internships or graduate schemes?

Nope! We focus on part-time jobs that you can do whilst you are studying – everything else is done through UoM Careers

Employers

If I want to advertise a vacancy with you, what do I need to provide?

You should submit your vacancy by clicking the ‘Post a Job’ button on the employers tab. Please make sure you include all information that is asked for, including the wage, as we can only post vacancies that include all the essential details. We will review your vacancy and post it on our website as long as it meets the requirements for sharing.

Can you help me recruit staff as well as advertise?

Yes! We can run your full recruitment process for you including advertising, shortlisting and interviewing candidates for you. Just get in touch with us and we will put together a bespoke recruitment package for you.

How much does it cost to advertise?

Nothing! It’s free to advertise a vacancy with us.

Are there any vacancies that you won’t promote?

We don’t promote any vacancies that:

  • Promote alcohol, tobacco or vape use
  • Promote betting or gambling
  • Involve modelling or TikTok shop sales
  • Are paid cash-in-hand or one-off payment
  • Pay commission only – you must pay an hourly wage to be promoted via JobShop
  • Are hired by an individual – we only promote vacancies via registered companies and we do a through online check
